AKAL TAKHAT JATHEDAR APPEALED TO SIKH MASSES TO SUPPORT “SIKHS FOR JUSTICE” AND PATRONIZED “1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION” TO INQUIRE INTO 84 SIKH GENOCIDE

On January 8, 2008, the Akal Takhat Jathedar appealed to the Sikh masses and organizations to support “SIKHS FOR JUSTICE” organizations campaign against the killers of Sikh Massacre and has also put Akal Takhats stamp of recognization to the “1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION”. While addressing the press at Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti asked the press not to address the 1984 SIKH GENOCIDE as Sikh Riots because that Sikhs were massacred by organized gangs in a planned manner and its more than twenty years and justice has been eluding the Sikh community. Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti further stated that “SIKHS FOR JUTICE” presented him the facts that more than ninety Gurdwaras were burnt along with Shri Guru Granth Sahib and thousands of Sikhs were massacred all over India, and no judicial inquiry have been conducted by an government as of today. Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti strongly appealed to the victim families and witnesses to come forward and help “SIKHS FOR JUSTICE” organizations campaign against the killers of Sikh Massacre and record statements without fear before “1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION”.
Before addressing the press at Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti met the delegation of “SIKHS FOR JUSTICE” led by Charanjit Singh Harnampuri, ALL INDIA SIKH STUDENTS FEDERATION, President Karnail Singh Peermohammad, and Victims of “1984 – STATE SPONSORED SIKH GENOCIDE”, who requested Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedhanti to appeal to the Sikh community that they should fully cooperate with the “1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION” formed to investigate those who were responsible for “1984 – STATE SPONSORED SIKH GENOCIDE” so that the guilty be brought to the justice and punished.
Print and electronic media asked Akal Takhat, Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti what was the need and objective to form the “1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION” and why Akal Takhat gave the commission its approval, Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti stated that government formed many commissions in the past twenty years and none of them inquired about the 1984 Sikh Genocide all over India, all the commissions were limited to Delhi and even recommendations of those commissions were not implemented by the governments, hence decision to give recognization to “1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION” established by “SIKHS FOR JUSTICE”. The “1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION” is established with the following main objectives:
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US based lawyer stated that to implement the appeal of the Sahib Sri Akal Takhat Sahib “ SIKHS FOR JUSTICE” formed a committee to organize the ““1984 – SIKH GENOCIDE COMMISSION” and is comprised of NAVKIRAN SINGH, H.S. PHOOLKA, RANJAN LAKHANPAL, RAJWINDER SINGH BAINS (SENIOR ADVOCATES), KARNAIL SINGH PEERMOHAMMAD, AVTAR SINGH PANNU, BARJINDER SINGH BRAR, BABU SINGH DUKHIA AND CHARANJIT SINGH HARNAMPURIA.
Attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun further stated that the “ SIKHS FOR JUSTICE “ organization in India established a core group of human right lawyers comprising of NAVKIRAN SINGH, RANJAN LAKHANPAL, RAJWINDER SINGH BAINS AND BARJINDER SINGH SODHI (SENIOR ADVOCATES) who issued the joint statement that the Sikh Community is asking successive governments to punish the guilty of “1984 – State Sponsored Sikh Genocide”, but none of the governments were sincere in their efforts and so is the Sikh leadership who lead the Sikh genocide victims. Now after twenty three years “SIKHS FOR JUSTICE”, A Human Rights Advocacy group, All India Sikh Students Federation, President Karnail Singh Peermohammad and the Victims of “1984 – State Sponsored Sikh Genocide” joined hands together, resulting in Jasbir Singh, witness to Jagdish Tytler’s involvement in “1984 – State Sponsored Sikh Genocide” coming forward to record his statement and that brought a ray of hope for the “1984 – State Sponsored Sikh Genocide” victims.
Avtar Singh Pannu, Barjinder Singh Brar (NJ), Dr. Bakshish Singh Sandhu (NJ) and Manjit Singh Dasuya (NY) while accepting the challenge of doing the fact finding inquiry regarding “1984 – State Sponsored Sikh Genocide” all over India, thanked the Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti for taking a much awaited bold step of leading the Sikh Community and getting them justice as per the traditions of Sikhism.
Following the appeal from Akal Takhat, Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti to Sikh masses and organizations to support “SIKHS FOR JUSTICE” organizations campaign against the killers of Sikh Massacre, leading Sikh Community leaders RESHAM SINGH (Bakersfield, CA), Nachhatar Singh(Los Angles, CA), SANT SINGH HOTHI(San Jose, CA) joined hands with SIKHS FOR JUSTICE and will lead the organization as per appeal from Sahib Sri Akal Takhat to bring the guilty of killers of Sikhs to the justice. In a joint statement Resham Singh, Nachhatar Singh and Sant Singh Hothi stated that in the next few weeks SIKHS FOR JUSTICE will be visiting the Gurdwaras all over California to mobilize and will appeal to the community to sign the petitions that will be submitted to the Supreme Court demanding Suo Motto action against the guilty.
